Original Digital Art & Fine Art Giclée Prints
Advantages of the Giclée Process
In its purest form, Giclée printing is defined by high-quality prints produced on a sophisticated inkjet printer using archival inks and media to ensure the highest quality and accuracy of reproduction.
The latest generations of inkjet printers employ extended inksets using up to 12 inks to cover a larger gamut or colour range encompassing both bright, vivid primary colours and the most delicate tints and subtle tonal gradations. Due to the greater number of inks used in giclée printing and the method of applying these inks to the media, the giclée process is superior to conventional litho printing in both its colour gamut and resolution, as well as offering a far wider choice of substrates.
The giclée process also allows prints to be produced on demand, in quantities as low as a single print at any one time, without the up-front expense of press setup and the relatively large minimum print runs associated with litho printing. Prints can be produced to order when sold, meaning that there is no need for the artist to hold a stock of prints and no risk of being left with unwanted prints if an edition fails to sell out. Furthermore, original files can be simply repurposed at minimal cost to allow prints on different media or at alternative sizes, offering a further range of sales possibilities.
Colourfast Editions Giclée Prints
Our fine art prints are produced exclusively by the Giclée process. In the hands of a skilled printmaker, the prints produced by this process can be effectively indistinguishable from the original artwork, with a rated lifetime usually in excess of 100 years.
In keeping with our commitment to producing only the finest quality output, we have added to our studio a Canon ImagePROGRAF wide-format printer using the 12-ink LUCIA inkset for the ultimate in colour accuracy, gamut and definition, with independently rated print lifetimes in excess of 100 years under normal display conditions. Our printers are driven by the latest version of the ColorGATE professional RIP which utilises a 16-bit colour engine for improved quality, with smooth tonal gradations and optimised detail reproduction.
We operate a fully colour-managed and calibrated workflow using the latest GretagMacbeth professional profiling equipment and software, and we meticulously profile our print media in-house in order to ensure the most accurate match of the final print to your original file. This system also enables us to maintain the calibration and colour consistency of the printer to a defined standard, ensuring a match for prints from both the beginning and the end of an extended edition.
For your convenience, we stock a selection of fine art and photographic media in 44" width, and particularly recommend the Canson Infinity range of Digital Fine Art media, which give the widest gamut of the fine art papers we have tested, with Velin Museum Rag and Arches Aquarelle Rag proving especially popular with our clients for the quality of their finish and the end results.
For canvas prints we recommend either Chromata Brilliant White canvas by Breathing Colour, or their new Lyve canvas, and can supply these either rolled or stretched as gallery wraps, subject to shipping requirements. All our canvasses are finished with several coats of Glamour II Veneer giclée varnish for mechanical and UV-protection, applied by professional quality HVLP spray coating for an unrivalled finish and available in matte, semi-gloss or full gloss finish as preferred.
We can also obtain other media to order on request, usually within approximately two days depending on our suppliers' stock levels. A further minimum of two days lead time should be added for profiling of media outside our standard range of products.
We can print directly from your own digital file if this is of sufficient quality, or can directly scan original artwork up to A4 in size. For larger originals, we offer an in-house high-resolution digital photography service which is suitable for the majority of originals and output sizes.
We will be pleased to advise on preparing a suitable file for print and on obtaining the best reproduction quality from your original artwork.
