About the artist
Steven is a Shropshire-based artist who works mainly in oils and soft pastels.
After his early art studies, the need to earn a living meant Steven moved into the social work sphere, where he spent over 25 years. However, in the last ten years he has been able to return to his first love, painting.
Steven adopts a contemporary, loose style, frequently working on a large scale. He particularly enjoys using colour, often employing the pure pigment to achieve a high degree of vibrancy and impact.
Steven says: "My work is based on a highly instinctive and emotional response to the subject, with the aim of capturing the artistic vision held in my mind."
Steven's work has built a loyal, local following. More recently he has achieved national recognition, with his painting "Swans" being short-listed for the "Artists & Illustrators" Artist of the Year 2015. His paintings have been exhibited at London's Mall Galleries in February 2016, and are currently on show and for sale at Rowles Fine Art Gallery in Ludlow.
